The Power of Laughter
Laughter appears in every emotion.
We’ve all heard the phrase, “laughing to keep from crying.” And many of us have done just that. We laugh out of joy. We laugh out of fear. We laugh in anger, in anxiety, in grief, in love. Laughter shows up when we least expect it—and often when we need it most.
Laughter is powerful. Laughter is healing.
It has the ability to ground us, redirect us, and lift us up from places we didn’t even know we were sinking into. It gives us pause in moments of pain and breath in moments of intensity.
To hear the laugh of an infant for the first time—it’s music.
To witness the laughter of an elder, rooted in pride and reflection—it’s sacred.
To feel laughter emerge from a heavy silence—it’s release.
We don’t always recognize it, but laughter saves us. It steps in before we say or do something harmful. It brings us back to center. It anchors us in the present and reminds us that, no matter how difficult things may seem, there is still joy in this world.
Let us sit with the blessing of laughter.
Let us honor the moments it comes to find us.
Because in the dance of emotions, laughter is a reminder: this life, this breath, this moment—it's all a gift. And sometimes, the best way to receive that gift is with a laugh.
